What's working on the Northside? What's not?

Here's your chance to get involved on the Northside. A Steering Committee of neighborhood and business representatives is updating the northside neighborhood plan from January through Fall 2008. They are asking for your input!

An open house will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at the Warner Community Center where you can talk with committee members, view displays describing the plan to date and discuss what you like about the northside and what you would like to see changed.

UW Family Business Center to sponsor seminar

The UW Family Business Center will host a one-day seminar on Tuesday, April 22 at the Monona Terrace Convention Center. This seminar will discuss Family Business Governance: and Boards

Program Description: Effective family business governance is one of the most critical processes and effective tools a business owner can implement, and yet it is something that so many are resistant to do or else they don’t do it well.

This two-part program features an educational and entertaining morning session on the essential elements of family business governance. After sharing lunch with fellow FBC members and guests, two distinguished panelists who are family business board Chairs, will
highlight their practical experiences and real-life challenges of family business boards in action and answer audience questions.

Doing Green Business

At the April 8th meeting of NBA, representatives from MG&E will be presenting "How going Green" can help businesses. This event is free to members and $17 for guests. First time prospects always receive dinner on us.

Sherman Avenue Resurfacing

On Wednesday night (March 12) City Alder Satya Rhodes-Conway held a listening session for residents and businesses interested in learning the details of the planned resurfacing on Sherman Avenue, slated to begin June 30. As promised, the start date has been scheduled for after the annual Rhythm and Booms.

The plan is to resurface Sherman Ave from the rail road tracks (south of the Esquire Club) north to to Windom Way (Near Ryan Funeral Home). The general consensus is the project will take 4-5 months with an anticipated end date of October 15.

Also present at the listening session were several city engineers and other staff who explained in great detail the scope of the project, lane closures and closed roads. All city staff present expressed great concern for business owners and the inconvenience this will cause. All attempts will be make to keep one access driveway open to businesses at all times.

East High Scholarship

Once again, NBA will be providing a $500 to a graduation senior who is interesting in pursuing a business degree or has an entrepreneurial bend and would like to start a business one day. Applications will be available through the East High school guidance office.

Northside Easter Egg Hunt - March 22

Once again, NBA will provide the Easter eggs for the Northside Community Council’s annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 22 at Warner park. Each year around 400 children come to hunt Easter eggs, win prizes and visit with the Easter Bunny.

The year the Council is asking for additional donations of prizes, cash and volunteer time. If you’d like to volunteer – please call Rosie at 244-0444.
