Northside Steering Committee needs volunteers

As you may know, The northside was selected by the Community Development Block Grant Commission is receiving planning services to update the 1992 northside neighborhood plan. A Steering Committee of 11 regular and 6 alternate members was appointed by the Mayor to conduct the update for the area north of Warner Park to Havey and Wheeler Roads. This process has been underway since January 2008.

Now, the committee is seeking additional members for the Committee that will focus on issues and strategies for the area south of Warner Park to Commercial Avenue. They are looking for additional members from the area shown below in red dots to join the ongoing planning process. Send NBA an email for more details.

Pounding the Pavement for a Pool

When: Saturday, August 23
Lace up your walking shoes, get out and sign up your neighbors and friends for the walk around the Warner lagoon on Saturday, August 23rd. Get a team of 10 and have the team name on the shirt. $100 will get a name on the shirt. If you register by August 1st you will have your shirt for the day of the walk. The later you enter the less likely you will be of getting your shirt before the walk. Team names can be printed on the shirts and the turn around time is three weeks. 6 Candidates for 81st District Assembly

Candidates in the 81st Democratic primary include: former Wisconsin Insurance Alliance President Eric Englund, restaurant owner Peng Her, Dane County Assistant DA Tim Kiefer, Waunakee Village President John Laubmeier, former NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin executive director Kelda Helen Roys, and Justin Sargent, staffer for Sen. Prospective candidates for Wisconsin’s fall elections have until July 8 to declare they're running.

According to the website Wispolitics.com, the most crowded primary has attracted six Democratic candidates to the 81st Assembly District, where Dave Travis, D-Waunakee has served for 30 years. The heavily Dem district in northwestern Dane County has yet to attract a Republican to run, so the primary winner could cruise unopposed to a first-term Assembly win.

Government + Business = Economic Health

NBA is one of 20+ neighborhood and business association that will co-sponsor the Madison business and government reception on Tuesday, July 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Brink Lounge (East Washington) . The event is a great opportunity for business representatives to mingle with city elected officials. Last year almost the entire Common Council, Mayor Cieslewicz, and staff from several city departments we in attendence. Solid participation is expected again this year.

Summer Concerts at Warner

The 15th Annual Summer Concerts Series at Warner Park as started. Come on down to the park shelter on Monday nights this summer! All shows begin at 6 PM and open to the public!
